The Governor of Kano, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has confirmed the arrest of 13 persons, believed to be on the way to Libya to join the dreaded Islamic terror group, Islamic State for Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Making the allegation on Tuesday during a police-organised press conference at Bompai Police headquarters, the governor said the suspects were not only a threat to their country of destination but were also likely threats to neighbouring countries like Libya and also their country of origin, Nigeria.
He praised the police for a job well done and encouraged them to continue on the same note of effective policing of the state.
Speaking also, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Katsina stated that the arrested suspects were in possession of fake travelling passports to Libya.
He expressed fear that they had the potential of joining a terrorist group once they get into Libya.
Meanwhile, a village head in Goron-Maje town in Dambatta council of Kano State, Alhaji Usman Musa Muhammad has been suspended from office following allegations of illicit relationship with a 14-year-old girl.
