13 Must-See Movies of 2013!

5 Min Read

It’s good to look at a new year as a fresh beginning — time to make changes in your life, set goals, better yourself. We think that’s great and all, but for us a new year means new movies to look forward to!

2013 is shaping up as the year of the sci-fi flick. From zombies to space to comic book heroes, fan boys have plenty to be excited about this year … along with some non-nerd movies to keep you entertained.

1. “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” March 8, 2013 — In this prequel to the legendary “The Wizard of Oz,” James Franco stars as magician Oscar Diggs, who will one day end up as “the man behind that curtain.” He’s joined by Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz as famous witches Glinda, Theodora and Evanora … and the visuals in the trailer alone blow us away.

2. “Evil Dead,” April 12, 2013 — Oh man. This remake of the 1981 Sam Raimi cult classic “The Evil Dead” looks seriously effed up … in the best way! Five friends hole themselves inside a remote cabin (never a good idea) and end up summoning demons from the nearby woods. Terrifying!

WARNING! The trailer below is a red band trailer, meaning it is FOR MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY.There is language and extremely graphic, violent imagery. If you have a weak stomach, don’t watch the end. Seriously.

3. “Oblivion,” April 19, 2013 — Tom Cruise as one of the last remaining, post-apocalypse men on earth? Morgan Freeman as … some sort of badass?! Oh yeah, we’re in.

This newest trailer, featuring music byJay-Z and Kanye West, Florence + the Machine and Filter, epitomizes the sleek Baz Luhrmann style, with dapper Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role. Along with Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton and more, this flick looks like a classic in the making.

This teaser trailer alone had us in stitches.

9. “World War Z,” June 21, 2013 — Much like “Iron Man 3,” this is also a no-brainer — but this time we mean it literally. Brad Pitt stars in this post-apocalyptic horror flick which finds him dealing with a zombie outbreak that’s taking over the world. (No brains! Get it?!) Can you imagine anything scarier than fast zombies? Ahh!

10. “Pacific Rim,” July 12, 2013 — Giant sea creatures? Check. The destruction of San Francisco? Check. Even gianter (yes, gianter) robot defenders? Check. This epic-looking Guillermo del Torofilm had been shrouded in secrecy … until the release of the trailer below. Enjoy!

11. “The Wolverine,” July 26, 2013

12. “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” November 22, 2013 — Let the games … continue! Installment number two of “The Hunger Games” film franchise comes our way next Thanksgiving, and while we don’t have any official photos or footage yet of Jennifer Lawrence and company, this animated poster is just pretty darn cool.

13. “The Hangover Part III,” May 24, 2012 — Sci-fi not your thing? How about some laughs? The Wolfpack is back! Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha and Bradley Cooper return as the fearless foursome who will, inevitably, get into some sort of trouble that makes our wildest nights look like Sunday school.
