11 youths had their entry into cultism terminated in Cross River State after they were arrested by men of the State police command. The cultists were arrested at their initiation ceremony, taking place at Bishop Moynag Avenue, state Housing in Calabar.
According to the police, nine males and two females were arrested during the initiation ceremony after the command received intelligence about the activities of cultists in the area.

The public relations officer for the cross river police command, DSP Irene Ugbo who confirmed the incident said the arrests were made through a combined effort of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and regular police officers attached to the Federal Housing police division.
A statement released by the police read; “On Aug. 14, 2020, a team of SARS operatives and men from the Federal Housing Police Division through intelligence from the Commissioner of Police swung into action and arrested 11 suspected cultists during initiation.
“Items recovered from them include talking drum, wooden guns, two kegs of concoction and a bottle of Gordon drink. The suspects confessed to the crime. The investigation is still ongoing to unravel other cult members.
“To this, he ends, the Commissioner of Police once again warned all members of any cult groups or anyone having intention to engage in any cult-related activities to desist from such”.
The police command described its policy to rid Cross River of criminality and cultism, Operation Murky Waters and said, it was effectively neutralizing illegal activities in the state as well as their sponsors.
The police however urged law abiding residents of the state to go about their regular activities without fear.
