Plans as regards the health of the Nigerian citizens has been disclosed by the Health Minister, Isaac Adewole, on Thursday while speaking at a weekly broadcast on the African Independent Television, AIT.

The Minister disclosed that the Federal Government has put plans in place to offer 100 million of the Nigerian citizens free health care. The plan which he noted will be in course for a period of 2 years.

He added that before the government could achieve the target, primary healthcare services would be revived and revamped. He said the Federal government would only recognise the universally accepted concept of one primary healthcare centre per political ward.

“One of the things we want to do under the revitalised PHC programme is that each of these revitalised, reinvigorated PHC will have an industrial borehole so that we can offer water to the people, clean drinkable water,” he said.

Noting that pregnant women would be one of the priority beneficiaries of the free healthcare scheme, he added that; ”The primary healthcare facilities, will be managed by nurses, mid-wives and village workers so as to accommodate cultural differences in different parts of Nigeria”
