1 Billion People Now Use WhatsApp – Zuckerberg

2 Min Read

Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has revealed that the smartphone messaging application owned by the company, WhatsApp, has hit the one billion-user mark.

He revealed this in a Facebook post on his verified page on Monday evening.

Facebook acquired the messaging service for $19 billion in late 2014, and its user base has more than doubled since, according to Zuckerberg.

He congratulated WhatsApp CEO and co-founder Jan Koum; co-founder Brian Acton,  and the other staff members for making the milestone a reality.

He posted the photo (used above) with the caption: “One billion people now use WhatsApp. Congrats to JanBrian and everyone who helped reach this milestone!

“WhatsApp’s community has more than doubled since joining Facebook. We’ve added the ability for you to call loved ones far away. We’ve dropped the subscription fee and made WhatsApp completely free. Next, we’re going to work to connect more people around the world and make it easier to communicate with businesses.

“There are only a few services that connect more than a billion people. This milestone is an important step towards connecting the entire world.”

Also, Jan Koum wrote on his Facebook page, “one billion users. couldn’t be more proud of our small team doing so much in just seven years. – Jan Koum, CEO and co-founder of WhatsApp”.
