Panic In Aso Villa As Buhari’s Top Security Officers At Loggerheads

2 Min Read
President Muhammadu Buhari

Babagana Monguno, the National Security Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Director General of the State Security Services (SSS), Lawal Daura, are reportedly at loggerheads.

It has been revealed that the cold war between the two senior security officials has begun to have adverse effects on the nation’s security, Premium Times reports.

The war allegedly began last August when the president directed Monguno to establish a committee to investigate military purchase from 2007 to 2015.

It was expected that State Security Services (SSS) was to be included in the committee, but Monguno reportedly snubbed the SSS.

When asked why the SSS official was denied, Monguno said he wanted the panel, made up of mainly retired army officers and a representative from the anti-graft agency, to be covert so as to avoid leakage of confidential information about the committee’s work.

The source said “The DG of the DSS found that insulting. According to him it was rude and illogical to claim that an agency in charge of intelligence gathering and other serious confidential security issues for the entire country is not considered worthy of keeping information about a committee.”

From then the relationship between both men depreciated and has not recovered, officials said.
